This qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.
To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.

Full-time (20 hours per week) using blended mode (face-to-face and supervised study sessions) and 120 hours of work placement Note: Excludes Self Study for assessment tasks.

As a benchmark, to undertake this qualification, all students will need to display competence at or above the below levels in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF):
*Note – this has been identified based on the Community services and health industry skills council Foundation Skills Guide for core units within this qualification.
This can be confirmed by requiring the student to complete the Commonwealth Approved ACSF Test.

In order to be able to complete a work placement, students must undertake and present a police check clearance
