High demand IT jobs in Australia

Whether you are an IT graduate, already taking an IT degree or still considering which IT course to study, you should know that IT skills are still in high demand in 2022! Since the IT industry is so large and fast-changing, you can choose from a variety of IT jobs in Australia. What’s even better is that there are plenty of career opportunities for IT graduates! It all depends on what you’re enthusiastic about and what you’re interested in.

A recent case study published by the Australian Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, Meeting demand for cyber security expertise (2018), noted that the Cyber Security Growth Centre (AustCyber) has identified a critical shortage of skilled cyber security graduates. Specifically, it was estimated that Australian industry will need at least 11,000 additional workers over the next decade just to meet existing demand. As a result, cybersecurity has emerged as a vital, rapidly growing field of employment. The National Skills Commission (NSC) revealed in a 2021 report that IT professions would continue to expand as one of Australia’s most rewarding and hottest industries.

1. Data Analysts

Data analysts are among of the most in-demand specialists! A majority of businesses need data analysts to assist with data gathering, processing, and reporting. They are highly regarded for their ability to support businesses in lowering expenses and forecasting information on competitors and industry trends. You can  earn high wages, even at entry-level, due to the current high demand and limited supply in the  industry.

Average Annual Salary: AUD 93,265 (Indeed)

2. Developers

Developers or programmers, in general, are experts in developing advanced products like software systems, applications, websites, and so on. Nowadays, the ever-changing technology in many industries have led to the high demand for Developers. For instance, Software developers design and create software solutions to suit users’ needs via programming languages based on market research. Candidates are normally required to be competent in well-known programming languages like JavaScript, Python, and PHP, as well as efficient communication and problem-solving abilities. JAVA and.NET professionals, as well as programmers familiar with the React and Angular frameworks, are also in high demand. In today’s world, a website is essential for any company. Thus, web developers, specifically backend, frontend and full-stack developers are among the fattest growing jobs in Australia. They create and maintain websites for businesses for businesses.

3. UI/UX Designers

Companies who require someone to ensure that a high-quality user experience is delivered are in critical need of UI/UX designers, who deal with both the functional and artistic aspects of projects.  In short, they are responsible to ensure that the company’s online appearance is appealing and friendly to users. UI/UX Designers play a significant part in many IT projects due to their ability to work on the look and feel of digital assets for businesses.

Average Annual Salary: AUD 96,679 (Indeed)

4. Cloud Engineers

A cloud engineer is an IT specialist who is in charge of all technological aspects of cloud computing, including planning, design, management, maintenance, and support.  Cloud Engineering is becoming a significant industry within IT sector in Australia, as it is widely employed by larger enterprises and businesses for storing and accessing data and software. IT graduates with capabilities in AWS, Azure, and Oracle Cloud, in particular, can be ideal candidates for this role.

Average Annual Salary: AUD 119,406 (Indeed)

5. Cyber Security Specialists

As a cyber security specialist, you need to provide security to the business during the development stages of software systems, networks, and data centres. In fact, although the cyber security industry in Australia is new, it is moving fast. Since 2015, over 50% of Australian cyber enterprises have been founded (Australia Cyber Security). To be successful, you should be able to give recommendations, develop security policies, and guarantee to implement them with assistance and mitigation. Therefore, getting an IT degree with a specialisation in Cyber Security  can be an advantage for your future career.
