Kent Supports Cancer Organisations and Heroes

Kent Institute Australia recently participated in two major Sydney events that supports those who are affected by cancer, the Biggest Morning Tea and Run2Cure.

On the 30th of May 2019, Kent hosted the Biggest Morning Tea benefitting Cancel Council Australia for the second time.  The Biggest Morning Tea aims to raise funds through food sharing as well as encouraging participants to do online monetary donations through an exclusive online link via the Cancer Council website. Several students and staff joined to support the yearly Australia-wide event and raised a total of Three Hundred Thirty and 35/100 dollars (AUD $330.35).

Four (4) deliciously baked food entries from staff and students were featured in the baking competition.  Jessy Lim, a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) student, was named as the winner.  Her winning pink crepe cake was a joint effort with her aunt who was a cancer survivor herself.  According to Jessy’s aunt, her experience from surviving cancer motivated her to support a meaningful cause like this. She also hopes to inspire and share positivity to those who are undergoing the same experience.

Inspiring messages and words of encouragement were also posted on the campus lounge area. A photo wall backdrop was designed and provided to invite more student participation.

The support did not stop there as five Kent volunteers participated in the Neuroblastoma Australia Run2Cure event on the 3rd of June 2019. Neuroblastoma is an aggressive cancer that affects children as early as 2 years of age.  Our young little heroes were supported by Neuroblastoma Australia through continuous research for cure, sustain ongoing treatment until post therapy expenses and ensure that they remain optimistic in their fight to overcome neuroblastoma.

Kent has been an actively volunteering for three (3) years in a row by performing different roles such as – registration, bib collection, event day assistance, course marshals and drink station members.

Kent volunteers were pleased and satisfied with overall engagement experiences. These opportunities enable the students with not just building their networks and connecting to a bigger community but with also supporting meaningful causes.

To learn how you can participate as a volunteer on the next campus event, make sure to always check the Events Calendar or visit Kent’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts.
