Researching is a critical skill to learn while you are studying at Kent. Although there is no “correct” way of researching for your assignments there are some assured methods that will make your research more effective. If you need assistance in conducting your research, ask the librarian or your ALS staff member.
The catalogue is a record of all the items held in the Library. These include your prescribed textbooks, additional reading material and journals. You can search the catalogue by:
The books are arranged in the Library using the Dewey Classification [numbers] System. The numbers range from 000-999 depending on the subject. It is vital that you get the correct number to enable you to find the book as quickly as possible.
EbscoHost is a database that allows Kent students access to academic journals and articles. Ebsco’s database Business Source Complete is a definitive scholarly business database. Business Source Complete covers the most important scholarly business journals dating back to 1886. In addition to the searchable cited articles from more than 1200 journals, it also provides full text journals in all disciplines of business and economics. Additional full text, non-journal content includes financial data, books, case studies, industry reports, market research reports, country reports, company profiles, SWOT analyses, and more.
All Kent students are encouraged to join the State Library of NSW and VIC. This will provide access to local and international newspapers, full text journals, e-books, magazines and digital images from the heritage collections. With your free State Library card, you can access over 80% of the Library’s e-resources from anywhere, anytime – you just need to be a New South Wales or Victorian resident.
You can join on-line and have your card posted to you or pick it up from the Library. The State Library card gives you remote access to the State libraries e-resources.
At the beginning of each trimester, the Kent Librarian arranges groups of students to visit both Librararies and arrange membership directly.
