Australia’s digital economy continues to drive strong demand for advanced ICT capability. Jobs and Skills Australia projects the employment share of Professionals and Managers to keep rising to May 2035, with ICT Managers among the faster-growing roles within management. In parallel, ACS Digital Pulse 2024 reports that Australia’s technology workforce passed one million in 2024 and forecasts ~1.3 million tech workers by 2030, underscoring persistent skills gaps in data, Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Security.
Within this demand, AI and Cyber Security stand out. Jobs and Skills Australia’s national Generative AI study finds AI is more likely to augment work than replace jobs, but adoption is still early and hinges on uplift in digital, data and AI skills across sectors. On the cyber front, government’s 2023–2030 Australian Cyber Security Strategy sets a vision for Australia to be a world leader in cyber security by 2030, while AustCyber’s sector plan estimates ~125,800 people in the cyber workforce (2022), including ~51,300 in dedicated cyber roles—evidence of depth gaps in specialised capability. Together these signals point to sustained demand for graduates with applied AI/ML, data engineering and model governance skills, alongside cyber architecture, assurance, incident response and secure-by-design engineering.
